What is a practice and how do I define it? A practice is when I’m consciously choosing.

For example: I can create a practice around eating, by choosing healthy options for my body.

I can practice mindfulness by noticing my breath.

A practice is different from a habit. How? A habit is something that we have repeated so many times it becomes unconscious, meaning we don’t even think about it we just do it.

Noticing my habits is a practice of becoming more self aware.

Patience: We all know when we are low on patience. The feelings of overwhelm, frustration, stress, irritability are all signals. When I feel this way I know it is a sign for me to slow down and be gentle with myself. I take a step back and ask myself “what do I need to fill up my own tank?” We can only give to others once we have taken care of ourselves.

The last part of step 7: Praising yourself for every step along the way.

At the end of the day do you focus on all the things that you didn’t get done? Being harsh with ourselves is common but not productive. For me it adds to my stress which decreases my productivity. Instead, try practicing seeing what is right with you! And then do the same by focusing on what is right with others too! We are all looking to be acknowledged. A basic human need. Start with yourself and then expand it to others. Authentic praise is like fuel, so praise yourself for every step along the way and notice how empowering it feels.
