Let’s do a quick review of the steps I have covered in The Seven Steps to Positive Change ™.

  1. Awareness, Acceptance, and Self Love.
  2. Dream, Desire, Deserve, and Decide.
  3. Open to Receive…

Open to Receive…sounds easy, right? Sort of like the movie Field of Dreams: “If we build it they will come.” Yes, the concept is simple; however we are unaware of the unconscious blocks we are continually creating to stop our flow of receiving. To increase our receiving we need to explore the opposite, and ask ourselves what is my resistance?

Here’s how it works:

Get clear on your desire: I want more money, time, intimacy, friends, travel, health, security; these are just a few common examples.

Give yourself the opportunity to think, or journal all the reasons why you believe you can’t have your desire. List and listen to what you are telling yourself:

  • I’m too old, it’s too late.
  • I don’t have the education to get the job I really want.
  • Financial success only comes to those who were born into it.
  • Money doesn’t grow on trees, I have to work 12 hours a day to get what I want.
  • I’ve tried before and it has never worked, so why should I try again?

Look at what you are telling yourself and allow it to guide you to your deeper fear. What, you don’t want to be guided to your fear? I get it! Fear is not fun to look at so we resist looking at it and continue to stay closed.

So if you are ready to “Open to Receive” here are some tangible steps for you to take.

  1. Become aware of the thought that the fear is creating. i.e. “I’m too old, it’s too late.” (this is a self limiting belief) continue to focus on it and you will continue to be too old and it will be too late.
  2. Name the fear: in this case a fear of rejection, or failure is at the root. Recognize the power in naming the fear. When we name it we tame it.
  3. Look for evidence in your life where you have faced this fear before. Look for evidence of older adults who have re-imagined their lives. It can and does happen.
  4. Use the fear to clarify your desire. Ask yourself the powerful question “How am I willing to show up? What step can I take toward my desire?” Hint: it starts with your internal dialogue.
  5. Commit to imagining yourself achieving the desire, daily.
  6. Take one small step toward your desire in your thoughts and action.

“The more we think the same thoughts, which then produce the same chemicals, which cause the body to have the same feelings, the more we physically become modified by our thoughts. In this way, depending on what we are thinking and feeling, we create our state of being. What we think about and the energy or intensity of these thoughts directly influences our health, the choices we make, and, ultimately, our quality of life.” Dr. Joe Dispenza
